HAIR Q's

How do I make a booking?

You can make an appointment by contacting me via email or instagram and I will be in touch as soon as I can.

Do you have after work hours available?

Although I don't offer the exact same working hours weekly, I do work late nights and weekends. These appointment times are very popular though so you have to book in advance (Up to 4 weeks wait)

What if I need to cancel my in salon booking?

Please be in touch as soon as possible, any cancellations within 24 hours of your booking will occur a $50 fee.

Do I have to use professional products or can I keep using my supermarket products?

  • If you’re investing in your colour, invest in professional hair care!
  • Why spend $300+ on your colour then spend $3 on shampoo..
  • Non professional products are filled with silicone which may make your hair feel nice on the outside but it’s essentially putting a plastic coating on the top of your hair shaft
  • Now imagine lightener trying to break through that plastic layer..
  • This also applies with all colour, covering greys or lightening the natural colour
  • Having to break through that first layer and then lightening the hair is double the work which can obviously lead to damage!

Do I have to have the Olaplex/K18 treatments during my lightening service?

I will always recommend using Olaplex and/or K18 during your lightening process, it is a choice/extra add on but the way I look at it... it’s pretty much hair insurance.

Can you travel to me?

I can travel to you for all styling needs (not colours and cuts) although I do have a minimum of 3 people travelling within Wellington region and 4 people travelling out of Wellington. Please understand that this takes time out of the salon and travel time is extra time, I also can't be expected to travel more hours than the hours of work.

Do yo charge for travel?

I sure do! It is charged at $1.00 per kilometre travelled (return)

Please note that I also charge a travel fee for my time. This will be charged at $60.00 per hour. This is due to the fact that time out of the studio travelling is time that I am unable to book other clients. These charges will be itemised on the quote/invoice.

See Duo Styling points for travel costs of duo.

Is a bridal trial necessary?

Trials are optional for any event, but are recommended for weddings in particular, so that we can all be sure on what we are going to do on the day and that you are happy. It is also very nice to meet you before your big day! All trials are an additional cost (see price list) and payment is charged separately. Payment for your trials are due on the trial date in salon.

When should I wash my hair before an appointment?

To all my blonde clients, before coming in for your colour touch up or lightening process, I always recommend to stop using purple/silver shampoo a week or even 2 weeks prior to your appointment. Purple shampoo can darken your blonde, it creates a more dull/muddy look and it also can stain/create a film on top of your hair that is just an extra layer for the lightener to break through.

Before any styling for events/weddings, I always recommend washing it the morning of the day before. This ensures me your hair is clean but not too clean.

Do you have a team?

I have the amazing Taylor (@taylormadehair_) working in my team in salon, I trust her and her work so much, I recommend Taylor to anyone who can't get an appointment with me.

I also obviously work very closely with my sister (@jaymiejarvis.makeupsrtist) who co-owns the salon with me and we are known as the Duo Styling team, working and travelling together to create hair and makeup looks on you beautiful people.

How do I make a booking?

You can email our joint email duostyling@outlook.com for all enquires or on our instagram @duo_styling

Alternatively you can contact one of us separately and we can communicate with one another or direct you to our joint email.

When can I book you in for my wedding?

We know wedding season is so busy and you want to get everything in lock! But we do only book for one year in advance, we hope you understand that we have to keep on top of our lives also.

Do you travel together?

Conveniently, in the case of both members of Duo Styling being booked together, and are able to travel together, only one mileage fee will apply. However, please note that both artists charge an travel fee for their time. This will be charged at $60.00 per hour per artist. This is due to the fact that time out of the studio travelling is time that we are unable to book other clients. These charges will be itemised on the quote/invoice.

What if I need to cancel my booking?

If you cancel your booking the following rules apply:

  • If you cancel a booking with more than seven day’s notice, you will not be required to pay anything further, noting your initial 30% deposit is still non-refundable.
  • If you cancel a booking within seven days, but with more than 24 hours notice, you are required to pay 50% of the remaining cost.
  • If you cancel a booking with less than 24 hours notice, you are required to pay 100% of the remaining cost.

What if you cancel on me?
